Praivet Gavamani Konekt

The Business Council of Papua New Guinea (BCPNG) launched the ‘Praivet Gavamani Konekt (PGK) process in 2021 to bridge the private sector and government, focusing on economic growth during the pandemic. Under the theme “The New Normal: Rescue, Recover, Rebuild,” the PGK process facilitates discussions on partnerships for economic development.

What is the Praivet Gavamani Konekt?

Praivet Gavaman Konekt (PGK) is the annual flagship public–private dialogue initiative of the Business Council of Papua New Guinea (BCPNG). Launched in 2021, PGK was established to strengthen engagement between the private sector and the Government of Papua New Guinea by addressing long-standing gaps in structured dialogue on national economic priorities.

PGK provides a structured government-to-business platform that brings together senior government leaders, policymakers, and private sector executives through curated forums, high-level roundtables, and its flagship breakfast engagements. These engagements focus on policy reform, investment opportunities, and practical approaches to inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

Each year, the Business Council delivers three Praivet Gavaman Konekt engagements known as PGK1, PGK2, and PGK3. Each engagement is aligned with timely national issues and key economic themes. Together, they form a continuous annual engagement cycle that supports policy alignment, strengthens mutual understanding between government and business, and contributes to Papua New Guinea’s broader economic and development agenda.

Types of Engagements

PGK 1

PGK1 is aligned with the Executive arm of government and is anchored by the Prime Minister’s Breakfast, making it the highest-level government–business engagement in the PGK calendar. It provides a platform for the Prime Minister and senior members of the Executive to outline national priorities, economic policy direction, and reform agendas for the year ahead. PGK1 sets the tone for the annual PGK cycle by establishing alignment, confidence, and shared expectations between government and the private sector in driving Papua New Guinea’s economic growth.

PGK 2

PGK2 is associated with the Legislative arm of government and includes the Speaker of Parliament’s Breakfast, focusing on the role of Parliament in shaping the policy and legislative environment for business. This engagement enables direct dialogue between the private sector and lawmakers on proposed legislation, regulatory frameworks, and governance processes that impact investment, productivity, and economic participation. PGK2 emphasizes constructive engagement on how laws and policies can be strengthened to support sustainable development while balancing national interests.

PGK 3

PGK3 aligns with the Judicial arm of government and features the Chief Justice’s Breakfast, highlighting the importance of the rule of law in economic stability and business confidence. Discussions under PGK3 explore justice, governance, and institutional integrity as key enablers of investment and long-term growth. By engaging judicial leadership alongside government and business, PGK3 reinforces the role of legal certainty, accountability, and strong institutions in creating a predictable and trusted environment for commerce in Papua New Guinea.
